    General Information

When conducting Massachusetts legal research, you may need to locate statutes, cases, court rules or documents, and regulations.  This guide will direct you to locations for all of these as well as highlight helpful secondary sources to get your research started.  Once you've researched your issue, you may want to locate forms to model documents after.  A discussion of where to locate forms is included under the Secondary Sources tab.

A note about electronic sources: Due to license restrictions, the law library can only provide access to LexisNexis, Westlaw, and Bloomberg Law to current law school students, faculty, and staff.

    I want to...

Find how-to information on a legal issue, like landlord/tenant law.

Try an MCLE for practical, current, topical information in areas like Civil Litigation, Criminal Defense, or Family Law. Search LoisLaw’s MCLEs collection by topic or title, or stop by the Reserves section to browse them in print.

    Compile a legislative history.

Use the Advanced Search feature on InstraTrac to search by keyword, bill number, sponsor, citation, or session, going back to 1995. For a Legislative History prior to 1995, please contact the reference librarians.

    Find a statute.

Search the Massachusetts General Laws from the General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by keyword or citation.

    Find a case.

Search Massachusetts Cases by name, citation, or subject, or use the Trial Court Law Library’s Law About... research guides to locate relevant cases.

    Find a regulation.

Use the index to the Massachusetts Code of Regulations from the Trial Court Libraries to look up your regulation by subject or keyword.

    Find a court form.

Look on the Massachusetts Trial Court Library’s list of Massachusetts Legal Forms, organized by subject, to find forms from Massachusetts Courts

    Law Massachusetts Collection
